President's Budget Freezes Library Funding
The Governor released his budget yesterday, and I would call it a mixed bag for libraries.
I know it is not realistic to expect no cuts for the third straight year, despite a $1 billion budget gap,
but you can always hope!
The Fiscal Services Division has published to the web a preliminary analysis of the Governor's FY 2010 and FY 2011 budget recommendations. This document can be accessed via the following link:
The governor’s budget appears to:
· Leave the State Library at its current (post-10% cut) level for FY11
· Leave the Library Service Areas at their current (post-10% cut) level for FY11
· Restore Enrich Iowa GENERAL fund appropriation back to pre-10% cut for FY11
· Cut $500,000 in RIIF $$ from Enrich Iowa for FY11, which would result in a 21.78% cut of the total Enrich Iowa program
· He also calls for restoring/backfilling the Enrich Iowa 10% cut this year (FY10).
